Impact and goal of the organization

Neighborhood Feminists, active since 2019 and based in Amsterdam, tackle pressing issues surrounding gender and public health, notably period poverty—a significant challenge where 27% of menstruating individuals in Amsterdam struggle to access necessary menstrual products. This grassroots team, primarily composed of volunteers, champions gender equality through direct action and advocacy. Their efforts have led to tangible successes, including the publication of impactful research and the adoption of a period poverty bill by the city, showcasing their commitment to driving systemic change and supporting thousands in need.

About Neighborhood Feminists

Neighborhood Feminists (NF) focuses on local projects in Amsterdam. Our primary target group consists of people who menstruate from vulnerable communities, such as people dependent on food banks, undocumented migrants, homeless people, and young people who are particularly at risk.
NF is taking direct, local action against period poverty — the lack of access to menstrual products, essential for good menstrual health — in Amsterdam.
NF currently supports an estimated 4.000 people in disadvantaged situations in Amsterdam every month by regularly replenishing the 60 Menstruation Stations — self-serve cabinets filled with free period products for anyone who needs them.
