Creative session for naming a special temporary project

At IMC on Tour we have been approached by the COA (Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers) with the question whether we can do something for a group of young people aged 18, 19 and 20 from emergency shelter in Amsterdam South-East who - because they are becoming adults seen - are currently not receiving education and are not entitled to additional support. This is often a forgotten target group that has been through a lot and has often traveled to Europe alone. These include young people from Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, Eritrea, Chad and Somalia. These young people have been staying invisibly in emergency shelter for months. We really want to be of significance in this.

At IMC on Tour we have been offering a Pop-up program since April. A weekly offering of workshops and excursions (art, dance, music, theater, sports). During each workshop or excursion, young people informally learn new Dutch words around that theme/subject. The workshops and excursions are coordinated by our colleagues. Now the young people themselves also specifically asked for cultural outings such as a visit to the Van Gogh museum.

Program IMC on Tour

With the IMC on Tour program, newcomer children from language classes aged 9 to 12 or international bridging classes aged 12 to 20 receive lessons every week, outside regular school hours, from enthusiastic professionals (volunteers) who talk passionately about their profession and field. These lessons provide a special introduction to professional options and to Dutch society. In this way, we want to give students extra knowledge to participate independently and motivated in primary education, and we ensure that the talent and potential of these young people can flourish.
